Born in 1940 in St. Paul, MN, Karen Lastre became a citizen of Texas in 1965 where she began her art career as a painter in 1969. Over the years she has been influenced by the colour field and abstract expressionist artists. Her work is included in major corporate and private collections throughout the United States and Europe. Among her many awards, in late 1994 she won a Merit Award at the Cheekwood Museum of Art in Nashville, juried by none other than KENNETH NOLAND.

Ms. Lastre is a mid-career painter with a working studio in Mid-Town at Art Square Studios. She shows her work in Dallas at Mary Tomas Gallery where she will have a one person show September 10, 2011. She states: “I have been very blessed while working in Texas and have shown my work all over the state as well as New Mexico. I even “broke into” New York a couple of years back!” During the late 1960’s and early ‘70’s my career was guided by John Tucker (then art appraiser at Dubose Gallery) and James Harithas (then Director of the Contemporary Art Museum CAMH). I work hard to prove them right!”
