Brenda Furman was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. Before relocating to Houston Texas in 2007, she lived in Cape Town, South Africa for 15 years. She started painting in oils in 2000. A bachelor’s degree in Health and Social Services, with a specialization in counseling psychology, interrupted her painting for a few years. She returned to a focus on painting in 2009.

Brenda’s extensive traveling is reflected in the scenes and the vibrancy, which she infuses into her paintings. Brenda’s expressionistic paintings transport the viewer to a world far away from the humdrum of daily life, to a place where imagination is aroused and the senses are enthused. Her aim is to touch the viewer on a personal level with upbeat scenes. She is drawn to colorful scenes, the bold use of color adds to the expressionistic quality of emotion and feeling.
Brenda paints life from the journey of her own life. She is known for South African scenes, especially those from the Cape. Her relocation to the USA is bringing a new dimension to her work as she explores New York street scenes, and the waterfront of Galveston.
Now a resident of Houston Texas, Brenda continues to share her love of life and cultural diversity through her artwork and community service. Brenda works with the community in the social services field as a hotline advocate and sexual assault accompaniment counselor for the Houston Area Women’s Center serving the needs of domestic violence and sexual assault survivors.
